DIY vs BUY - Soundproofing
Gobos or Go-Betweens
Another disappointing section here for the DIY fans... Or maybe not, because they were once again cheaper than the materials after shipping and saved me a ton of labor. Now if you are planning on doing DIY thing on large bass traps, then you might as well make a few Gobos while you are at it!
Not only did I go with Realtraps one again, but I actually purchased them new! Not my style to say the least... Grabbed two of their 3.5" thick 2 foot by 4 foot Baretraps (The Baretrap is basically a Minitrap with a slightly less sturdy frame at a fraction of the cost.) They are great bass traps, have good mid freq control capabilities, block out a ton of directional sound and are more than durable enough to withstand constant use. They attach together with a lift off hinge that makes them easily stored away and allows them to be used together or separate. They come in several configurations, however, I went with the absorbtive on one side and reflective on the other giving me sound isolation from behind and low to mid frequency control options in the front. At $125 a piece they have provided me with a movable double barrier for isolation, lower portion of a vocal booth, ability to block off untreated parts of a room and they can be separated to act as floor or mounted bass traps in my corners.
